What is the e-Shram card?

It is a work identity in the name of an e-Shram card for the people who are unorganized workers working in the unorganized sector such as construction workers, migrant workers, platform artists, street vendors, domestic workers, agricultural workers, and other organized workers having age between 16 to 59 years. And this card has a 12 digit UAN (Universal Account Number) which will identify an unorganized worker.

1. Increase the chances of getting employment to the laborers of the country. With this, the records of workers and laborers belonging to the unorganized sectors come in the database of the Government. In such a situation, priority will be given to them for work.
2. Apart from this, accident insurance of Rs 2 lakh is also given to the e-workers. This insurance cover is given to the workers holding e Shram Card under the ambitious scheme of the Government of India, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima.

How can I apply for E-Shram card online?

Here is the list of steps to apply for an e-shram card online by self at home anytime-

• First of all visit the eshram website by searching in the google or directly through the link- eshram portal

• After reaching on eshram portal you need to visit self registration.
• Now enter your mobile number ( aadhar linked mobile number is preferred)
• Then enter captcha and select No option for EPFO and ESIC
• After all of these, just click on send otp and enter the otp in the field available
• And then click on submit button.
• After that, you will be asked to enter aadhar number just enter enter aadhar.
• Now tick mark to the terms and condition and then click on submit.
• After submit, a otp will be sent on aadhar linked mobile number.
• Then plz enter otp recieved on mobile number and click on validate button.

• After validation, you will see your all personal information as per aadhar so just check and proceed to enter further required details such as other personal information, address, education, occupation or skill, and bank details.
• You should enter details as per requirements such as
  • Personal info– Reg. mobile no, Emergency mobile no, email id, blood group and nominee details.
  • Address– Current address, Permanent addess, Time of living
  • Education– Education qualification, Education certificate, Monthly Income, and Income certificate (not mandatory).
  • Occupation– Occupation type, working experience, and occupation certificate (not mandatory)
  • Bank details- Aadhar linked bank account details- name , a/c no, ifsc code, bank name and branch
• After entering all details, You just need to check your infomation with preview and need to confirm and submit
• At the last, you will get your e shram card made online just you can make pdf and print out also.

What is the validity of E-Shram card?

If you have got your e-Shram card made then it will be valid for a lifetime. Due to lifetime validity, there is no requirement to renew it annually.

What is the charges of E-Shram card?

Registration on eSHRAM portal is free. Workers are not required to pay any charges to any registering entity.

Can we update e-Shram card online?

Once registered, a worker may update his particular details such as mobile number, current address, occupation, educational qualification, skill types, family details, etc. through visiting eSHRAM portals or nearest CSC’s.

Q1. What is UAN?

Universal Account Number is a 12 digits number uniquely assigned to each unorganized worker after registration on the eSHRAM portal. UAN number will be a permanent number i.e. once assigned, it will remain unchanged for the worker’s lifetime.

Q2. I am unable to connect to the helpdesk number – 14434. What should I do?

In case you are unable to contact shortcode helpdesk number 14434, you may also try the 10-digit number as provided by the CSC

Q3. Are there any income criteria?

There are no income criteria for registering on eSHRAM as an unorganized worker. However, he/she should not be an income tax payee.

Q4. Is there any charge the worker must pay for the registration in eSHRAM?

Registration on eSHRAM portal is free. Workers are not required to pay any charges to any registering entity.

Q5.Will there be any deduction from worker’s bank account after registration?

No. Bank details are being captured to ensure hassle-free delivery of benefits under social security schemes or any benefits by the Central/State government directly to the worker’s account.

Q6.Does the eSHRAM card have validity period?

This is a permanent number and valid for the lifetime

Q7. Does the worker have to renew the UAN card?

There is no need to renew the eSHRAM card to the workers to regularly update their details, mobile number, current address, etc. In order to keep his account active, he/she is required to update his account at least once in a year.

Q8. What are the details workers can update in eSHRAM?

Once registered, a worker may update his particular details such as mobile number, current address, occupation, educational qualification, skill types, family details, etc. through visiting eSHRAM portals or nearest CSC’s.

Q9. Who are unorganized workers?

Any worker who is a home-based worker, self-employed worker, or a wage worker working in the unorganized sector and not a member of ESIC or EPFO, is called an unorganized worker.

Q10. What is unorganized sector?

The unorganized sector comprises of establishment/ units which are engaged in the production/ sale of goods/ services and employ less than 10 workers. These units are not covered under ESIC & EPFO.

Q11. What essential documents are required by the worker to register on eSHRAM?

Following is required by the worker to register on the eSHRAM portal–

Aadhaar Number

Bank account
Note – If a worker does not have an Aadhaar linked mobile number, he/ she can visit the nearest CSC’s and register through Biometric authentication.

Q12. What is the benefit an unorganized worker will get when he/she registers on eSHRAM portal?

Central Government has developed eSHRAM portal which will be a centralized database of unorganized workers seeded with Aadhaar. After registering, he/she will get an Accidental Insurance cover of 2 Lacs under PMSBY. In the future, all the social security benefits of unorganized workers will be delivered through this portal. In emergency and national pandemic-like situations, this database may be utilized to provide necessary assistance to the eligible unorganized workers.

Q13. What is NCO?

It is the National Classification of Occupation prepared on the basis of work and skill levels required to execute the work. It is an international practice and uniform across the country. And It helps in comparing, classifying, sorting occupations and skill levels.

Q14. How my details will be used by the Labour ministry. ?

It is a centralized database seeded with Aadhaar. It will be used for the delivery of social security benefits as implemented by Central & State Ministries. and It will also ensure the portability of the social security and welfare benefits to the migrant and construction workers at their working places. And It may also be used for providing assistance to the eligible workers during any National crisis like COVID-19 in the future.

Q15 Is there any helpdesk I can contact to address my queries?

A dedicated National Help desk has been set up for any queries related to eSHRAM registration and grievances. Helpdesk Number is 14434 (or a 10-digit number as provided by CSC)

Q16. What procedure needs to be followed in case of death of the worker?

A nominee or family member should file a claim along with relevant documents on the eSHRAM portal/ CSCs. They may also contact their concerned banks.

Q17. What action is required to be taken by the worker, after attaining the age of 60 years?

Workers do not need to take any action after attaining the age of 60. He/ she will continue to get benefits under eSHRAM project, he/she is entitled to.

Q19. Can the worker update his/her photo on eSHRAM portal ?

During the registration, the photo is pulled from Aadhaar services therefore provision to update photos is not available. However, if a worker’s photo is updated in Aadhaar, the same will be reflected on eSHRAM portal as well after the Aadhaar authentication.

Q20. I have lost my registered mobile number. How can I update my mobile number? or register any other mobile number on eSHRAM portal?

You can directly call the helpdesk number and after verifying your credentials, your mobile number on the eSHRAM portal will be updated. Alternatively, you can visit eSHRAM portal or nearest CSC/ SSK’s to update your mobile number.

Q21. What is last date of eSHRAM Registration?

There is no last date for registration. For convenience, registration on eSHRAM portal is allowed 24×7.

Q22. Are there any financial/monetary/ cash benefits after registration on eSHRAM portal?

Right now, only registration is being done through eSHRAM. The registered workers will be provided accidental insurance cover of Rs. 2 lacs for a year. This data may be utilized to provide financial assistance to the eligible workers during a national crisis – COVID19 like situation.
