A caste certificate is an official document issued by the Revenue Department of NCT of Delhi declaring that an individual belongs to a particular caste in society. As we know there are so many castes in India but the caste certifications are provided to the individuals that belong to the Scheduled caste and Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes that are documented in the Indian Constitution. A Caste Certificate is available only for the individual or family who deserves certification. And the Govt has also issued the list of a caste who able to get a certificate. For instance, they can get a concession in necessary fields.

What is a Caste Certificate?

A caste certificate is an official document issued by the Revenue Department of NCT of Delhi declaring that an individual belongs to a particular caste in society. And the caste certifications are provided to the individuals that belong to the Scheduled caste and Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes that are listed in the Indian Constitution.

Who can apply for a caste certificate?

An applicant can apply for a Caste certificate if he/she is

  1. First, An individual who is a citizen of India.
  2. Second, An Applicant should belong to a caste which is mentioned in the constitution (Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes) [(States/Union Territories)] orders issued till date as amended from time to time.
  3. And third, Anyone who does not belong to SC or ST category can’t claim so on the virtue of marriage.

What are the documents required for applying for a Caste certificate?

  4. Copy of the Cast Certificate of the relative from paternal side issued from Delhi or State of origin of the applicant.
  5. Proof of relationship of the applicant with cast certificate holder.
  6. Affidavit for Cast certificate (wherever applicable)
  7. Other evidence issued and attested by the relevant authority.
  8. The candidate must provide a signed copy of the self-declaration along with the application form.
  9. One Passport size Coloured Photograph of the Beneficiary(Size 5cm x 4.5cm Or 2”x1.75”)

What are the different cases where documents may differ?

There different cases where the applicant have to produce furthermore Mandatory documents in addition to above mention documents-

I: Original resident With Certificate– First Copy of Caste Certificate of any relative from the paternal side and Second Proof of the relationship of the applicant with caste certificate holder.

II: Migrated & Settled in Delhi with Certificate-First Copy of Caste Certificate of any relative from the paternal side and Second Proof of the relationship of the applicant with cast certificate holder and third any one of the following documents: a. Birth certificate for applicants born in Delhi. b. Matriculation certificate/marks-sheet for applicants who have studied in Delhi. c. Proof of residence for the last 5 years

III: Migrated & Settled(but not listed as SC in Delhi) with Certificate– first Copy of the Caste Certificate of the relative from paternal side issued from Delhi or State of origin of the applicant and second Proof of relationship of the applicant with caste certificate holder.

IV: Resident of Delhi but not settled in Delhi with Certificate issued to Paternal relatives in the native state-first Copy of the Caste Certificate of the relative from paternal side issued from Delhi or State of origin of the applicant and second Proof of relationship of the applicant with caste certificate holder.


V: Original resident of Delhi without Certificate to any Paternal relative Applicant whose family has been staying in Delhi since prior to 1951-Proof of residence in Delhi clearly showing residence in Delhi prior to 1951.

VI: Migrated without a certificate– First Applicant will be required to submit proof of residence in the state of origin prior to 1951

How to apply online for a Caste certificate?

As a citizen of Delhi, you can apply for Caste Certificate online which service is available on the E-district website by these simple steps of registration online:

  1. First of all, need to visit the e-district site – https://edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in/
  2. Then you will register yourself as a new user with the help of your Aadhar card or voter id.
  3. After registration, you will get a user id and the password just need to change according to you.
  4. Now you can log in with the help of a user id and password
  5. Then, you will upload your documents as per required formats and sizes such as Aadhar card, voter id, and photo.
  6. And then need to complete first your profile by providing all the required information
  7. Then, you can apply for any required service online just by filling the required service form within the prescribed time and limit.
  8. Then you can click on the apply button in the menu
  9. apply online > apply for services and then click on the apply button of Issuance of Cast Certificate for (SC/ST/OBC) in the Department of Revenue section
  10. After that, Your profile details will show just check and click on the continue button.
  11. Now just enter the furthermore required details then click on the continue button.
  12. After the click, you will have to attach the supporting documents which I have already shown above in the post.
  13. Upload the documents in the proper required format or size and click on the Save button after uploading each document.
  14. At the last, click on the final submit button after checking all information filled in the form. and just verify by OTP received on the registered mobile number.
  15. And then, you will see the acknowledgment receipt just save it and get a print of it.

How to apply offline for a Caste Certificate?

You have to visit your area’s revenue department Govt of NCT for getting an application form for a Caste certificate. After getting the application form, you need to fill it and need to attach the required and supporting documents with the form. And after completion of all documents, you need to submit them to the revenue department with verifying the original documents.

How to check the Caste Certificate status?

When you have applied for Caste Certificate on the e-district Delhi portal then you really wish to know the status of your application and like to track the status so here you can track your application status:

  1. First of all, visit the e- district portal
  2. Then Track your application link and then click on it
  3. Then you are to enter required details such as Firstly select Department then applied for then enter application no and after that enter applicant name and type the security captcha and click on the search button.
  4. And after that, you will able to see the status of your application.

How to download the Caste Certificate application form?

if you want to apply for a Caste certificate offline then you can collect a related form from the Department of Revenue NCT of Delhi or you can download them from the e-district portal at your home. You have to use this steps to download application form-

when you have applied for a caste certificate online on the e-district Delhi portal and have got a message of issuance of the certificate and you don’t know how to download online then follow these steps-

First of all, go to the e- district portal then the Print and download certificate link and then click on it now enter required details such as

  1. Firstly select department of Revenue then issuance of caste certificate for (SC/ST/OBC)
  2. Then enter application number > date of birth> then type captcha and click on the continue button
  3. Now you will get an OTP on your registered mobile no just enter in the required field and enter again captcha and click on the download button
  4. and after that, your certificate will be downloaded in pdf format just get print and use.
